In September 2025 we hosted our very first Artists in the Woods Residency and it was truly magical.
Seven incredible artists spent a week creating site-specific installations around the mountain, connecting with nature, sharing meals, and inspiring each other.
ALEXIS NEUMAN | AMELIA KAISER | CHRIS ELLIMAN | SHANNON O'SHEA | PALOMA GONZALEZ | ROSE SAUER | ZOE CARON

We kicked off the week with a talk by biologist Scott Tremor from San Diego Natural History Museum, learning about the local wildlife of Warner Valley. Throughout the week, the artists explored the land, worked on their pieces, and even visited California Wolf Center for a special sketching session with wolves šŗ.

Over the following days, we visited Ilan-Lael Foundation, home and studio of James Hubbell, where we got inspired by his lifetime of work, and stopped by Santa Ysabel Art Gallery to meet local artists and curators. We also spent a morning sketching wolves at California Wolf Center ā a truly unforgettable experience.

We also had the ornithologist Lisa Allen come do a very special and exciting morning birdwalk. She showed us and described some of the most known species we have in Southern California, such as the bright and bold California Scrub-Jay, the acrobatic Annaās Hummingbird shimmering in the early light, the melodic Western Meadowlark, and the watchful Red-tailed Hawk circling high above the valley.
This also served as inspiration for the Artists to get inspired by the surrounding nature.
